In light of concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure your car donation remains safe and simple. Your health is our priority.

We are working closely with our towing partners around the country to pick up your vehicle and ensure safe conditions for everyone. A donation requires little to no human interaction, simply fill out the form on this page or call us and receive tax deduction paperwork by mail.

Your vehicle donation ensures that National Kidney Foundation can continue to provide the highest level of support and guidance for kidney patients and their families during this challenging time.

  • The NKF's car donation process is easy. You can donate online, or call 800.488.2277. You can speak with someone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday EST.
  • We help hundreds of donors every day with title problems. They even help with tax issues or any other problem you might have.
  • Most vehicles can be picked up within 24 hours of making your call. In two weeks you will receive a proof of donation letter for your tax purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I donate?
The majority of our donations are cars, trucks, or vans. However, we accept boats, motorcycles, motor cross bikes, power sports equipment including ATVs, off-road motorcycles, construction equipment, and personal water craft such as Jet-Ski with a trailer hitch. We also accept farm equipment including tractors with a serial number. Please call with questions:800.488.2277.
Can I donate a vehicle that doesn't run?
Yes, we are happy to accept vehicles whether they run or not, as long as it has a title.
How much will I recieve as a tax deduction for my car?

Your deduction depends on the sale price of the vehicle. The National Kidney Foundation strives to bring in the highest price for your donation, selling each car in a competitive bidding environment.

You can deduct the value of your vehicle only if you itemize deductions when filing your taxes. Under the current IRS law, you may only deduct the actual sale price of your vehicle or $500 whichever is greater. A receipt indicating the sale price and date will be sent to you within 30 days from the date of pick up. What should I do with my license plate after I donate my car?

The following states require license plates remain with the vehicle, unless they are personalized. Please contact your local department of motor vehicles if you have additional questions:

What will happen to my car?

Once a car is donated, it is sold through auction to recyclers and dealers. The National Kidney Foundation sells each car in a competitive bidding environment, offered to thousands of buyers who may recondition your vehicle, or recycle it for its most valuable use. Many donated vehicles that are not in running condition are recycled. After the car sells, the National Kidney Foundation uses the proceeds to fund lifesaving programs and services for millions of Americans who have kidney disease.

Do I have to be home or with the vehicle when it is picked up?

You do not have to be home. We will make arrangements to pick up your vehicle at a time that is most convenient for you.

What do I need to know about signing my title?

Will there be any cost to me?
